Execution
- 1.Lower by bending the elbows, leaning the torso slightly forward.
- 2.Descend until the upper arms are roughly parallel with the floor.
- 3.Press back up to full lockout.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower, exhale as you press.
Form cues
- Keep the shoulders down and back at the bottom.
- Elbows travel back, not out.
- Stop at a depth your shoulders can control.
Common mistakes
- Dropping into a very deep bottom position and rolling the shoulders forward.
- Flaring the elbows wide.
- Bouncing out of the bottom.
Safety
- Go only as deep as the shoulders tolerate comfortably — the very bottom of a dip is a common shoulder irritant.
