Incline Dumbbell Bench Press

What it trains
upper pectoralis major, anterior deltoid

Equipment
dumbbells, incline bench
Setup
- Set the bench to roughly 30–45 degrees.
- Sit back with a dumbbell on each thigh and kick them up into position.
- Retract the shoulder blades against the pad.
Execution
- 1.Begin with the arms locked over the upper chest.
- 2.Lower until the upper arms are about level with the torso.
- 3.Press back to lockout without letting the dumbbells drift toward the face.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
Form cues
- Keep the shoulders back against the pad.
- Press slightly back over the shoulders, not straight toward the ceiling.
- Match the depth on both sides.
Common mistakes
- Using too steep an incline.
- Letting one arm lag behind the other.
- Shrugging the shoulders up at the top.
