Dumbbell Walking Lunge

What it trains

quadriceps, gluteus maximus

Also: hamstrings, adductors, core

Equipment

dumbbells, clear floor space

Setup

  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand at the sides.
  • Stand tall with enough clear space ahead to walk the whole set.

Execution

  1. 1.Step forward into a lunge and lower until the back knee nearly touches the floor.
  2. 2.Drive through the front foot and bring the back leg through into the next lunge.
  3. 3.Continue walking forward for the prescribed reps.

Breathing

Inhale as you descend, exhale as you step through.

Form cues

  • Keep the torso tall — no folding forward.
  • Long enough steps to keep the front shin vertical.
  • Control each landing rather than falling into it.

Common mistakes

  • Rushing and losing balance between steps.
  • Short steps that push the knee well past the toes.
  • Letting the dumbbells swing and pull you off line.
