Fold-Up
Also written as Fold ups, Fold ups w/ medicine ball
What it trains
rectus abdominis, hip flexors
Also: obliques
Equipment
bodyweight, medicine ball where prescribed
Setup
- Lie flat on your back with the legs straight and the arms extended overhead.
- If a medicine ball is prescribed, hold it in both hands overhead.
Execution
- 1.Simultaneously lift the torso and the straight legs, folding at the hips.
- 2.Reach the hands toward the feet at the top of the fold.
- 3.Lower both halves back to the floor under control.
Breathing
Exhale as you fold, inhale as you extend back down.
Form cues
- Both ends move at once — that is what makes it a fold.
- Keep the legs as straight as you can.
- Lower with control rather than dropping flat.
Common mistakes
- Lifting only the torso and turning it into a sit-up.
- Bending the knees to make the fold easier.
- Slamming the legs and back down between reps.
Scaling & substitution
- Bending the knees slightly keeps the pattern intact if the straight-leg version pulls on the lower back.
