What it trains

shoulders, obliques

Equipment

bodyweight, bag or open space

Setup

  • Stand in a staggered fighting stance with the hands up by the chin.
  • Keep the knees soft and the weight on the balls of the feet.

Execution

  1. 1.Work through combinations of punches and kicks at a continuous, moderate pace.
  2. 2.Rotate the hips and pivot the back foot as you strike rather than reaching with the arms.
  3. 3.Return the hands to the guard position after every strike.

Breathing

Exhale sharply on each strike and keep breathing between them.

Form cues

  • Hands back to the chin after every strike.
  • Turn the hips into each shot.
  • Steady pace — this is a warm-up or a finisher, not a sprint.

Common mistakes

  • Dropping the hands as fatigue builds.
  • Punching with the arms only and no rotation.
  • Locking the elbows out at full extension.
