Russian Twist

What it trains

Equipment
medicine ball or weight plate
Setup
- Sit on the floor with the knees bent and the heels down or lifted.
- Lean the torso back to roughly 45 degrees and hold the ball or plate at the chest.
Execution
- 1.Rotate the torso to one side, bringing the weight beside the hip.
- 2.Rotate through to the other side under control.
- 3.Count reps as the program specifies — usually one per side or one per full pass.
Breathing
Exhale on each rotation, breathing steadily throughout.
Form cues
- Rotate the ribcage, not just the arms.
- Keep the chest up and the back long.
- Move at a pace you can control.
Common mistakes
- Swinging the arms while the torso stays still.
- Rounding the lower back into a slump.
- Rushing so the rotation becomes a flail.
