Seated Calf Raise

Equipment

seated calf machine, or a bench and a plate

Setup

  • Sit with the balls of the feet on the platform and the pad across the lower thighs.
  • Set the pad snug so the knees are bent to roughly 90 degrees.

Execution

  1. 1.Lower the heels to a full stretch below the platform.
  2. 2.Press up onto the balls of the feet as high as you can.
  3. 3.Pause briefly at the top, then lower under control.

Breathing

Exhale as you press up, inhale as you lower.

Form cues

  • Full stretch at the bottom, full contraction at the top.
  • The bent knee biases the soleus — go slow rather than heavy.
  • Pause at the top of each rep.

Common mistakes

  • Bouncing out of the bottom stretch.
  • Using a short, fast range in the middle.
  • Letting the heels drift outward or inward.
